How to Not Let the ‘Summer Slow Down’ Slow You Down

How to Not Let the ‘Summer Slow Down’ Slow You Down

It’s almost time for summer. Can you believe it? Not too sure where the time went but I’m ready for the sunshiny days, reading by the pool, fresh lemonade (ooh, I really love lemonade) and plenty of travel – all of these activities are high on the list of ‘to do’s’ over the coming weeks. Luckily as a business owner I am able to enjoy the flexibility that the summer season provides and have noticed over the years that the activity of current clients and new client requests will slow down between May and August due to vacations, family visits, etc. Not sure if this is how it is for everyone but in my world it’s been this way since starting out. Though it was a bit unsettling the first couple of years I’ve now grown enough that the activities during the rest of year help me glide through the summer without missing a beat. It’s a welcome change of pace and I will even hold off on taking on new projects until the fall just to make sure that I take full advantage of the season. I’ve found that summer is the perfect time of year for finally finding time to work on what needs to happen in order to make AllBiz… AllBiz.

As professionals we often find ourselves bombarded with the demands of clients/customers and in doing so find ourselves left with little or no time to work on those things that will help us grow in life and business. I’ve found that making use of the natural ebb and flow helps to ensure I’m not stressed out and that I’m also doing what needs to be done to maintain my sanity. So far I’ve put these slower than usual periods to great use by using the time to write, update my site, spruce up client sites, finish up projects, and also tackle items on my wishlist. I love the ‘slow down’ because I am free to be as creative as I need to be. I have used the time to weed out what works and what doesn’t in my life & business, create new service offerings & packages, as well as, review everything in quiet reflection. All these efforts keep things fresh for the coming months and I feel a sense of renewal that keeps me from burning out.

Mind you these slower than usual periods vary only slightly for me from year to year. Yours may be completely different depending on your focus. I’ve learned my off peak periods include the following: the first week of the year, May through the third week of August, Oct (not sure why) and then finally the last three weeks of the year. It’s up to you to find yours. Yes, there may be significant differences in how you handle what you do but rest assured that all industries have these lulls. Even if it’s only between 7 – 9pm every other Thursday you must seek them out and use the time wisely for doing so will open incredible gateways toward improved efficiency. Stop and take the time now to review your own calendar to determine yours.  Then plan on using the time for starting and completing those project which will solidify your future success. You will reap the rewards every day of the year and will also feel better about things as a whole because you properly planned and used your time well during those slower than usual periods. By making this an ongoing habit you strengthen the very base that will attract more clients, referrals, and ultimately give you peace of mind. How awesome is that?

If you’ve been reading my posts then you will find an underlying theme of offering tips on balancing life and business. I really enjoy finding smarter ways of doing things and putting into place the ‘how to’s’ for using time wisely. It’s not easy, and as a wife and mother of two growing girls I’m finding doing so even more challenging than ever. If I’ve learned anything from running my business from home it is that you have to make the time to do what is needed and that it is important to master the skill of finding those windows which will allow you the opportunity to accomplish your goals. It helps to be keenly aware of what’s going on around you and to remember to leave nothing to chance. Really, I didn’t have a choice for quite a while because there was only me running things. Thankfully I’ve been blessed enough to be able to grow the AllBiz Team and will continue to share what I’ve learned in order to help you enjoy the best in life and business. So be sure to share your tips and insights in the comments box below. I’m always open to new ideas and willing to also share what works and together we can each find even more time to live our best life. Looking forward to hearing from you! ~De
